Street Photography Barcelona will collaborate with Ibizacinefest in the "Film and Photography" section and the exhibition of its finalist photographs on the island.
Cinema and Photography meet in Ibiza
The Ibiza Independent Film Festival (Ibizacinefest) celebrates its tenth edition with a new feature that promises to enrich its cultural offering: the "Film and Photography" section , replacing the previous "Film and Art" section. This initiative is in collaboration with the Street Photography Barcelona Contest (SBPC) and supported by the UNED Illes Balears .
An alliance that opens new perspectives
Ibizacinefest, recognized as a qualifying festival for the Goya, Forqué and Fugaz Awards , inaugurates this collaboration with the screening of the documentary Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other (2024) , directed by Jacob Perlmutter and Manon Ouimet .
The film tells the intimate and moving story of artist Maggie Barrett , who, after fracturing her femur, is cared for by her husband, celebrated photographer Joel Meyerowitz . Faced with the fragility of life, the two protagonists embark on an emotional journey in search of serenity and reconciliation, honestly illuminating the lights and shadows of a relationship marked by the passage of time.
The creators behind the documentary
Jacob Perlmutter : A photographer specializing in street photography and self-taught filmmaker, after exploring naturalism in fiction projects, he turned to documentary as a deeper way of exploring the human condition. His previous works include Who is My Brother? (2020), San Francisco Love Story (2013), and El Musgo (2013). With Two Strangers Trying Not to Kill Each Other, he takes his first major step into documentary filmmaking.
Manon Ouimet : photographer and visual artist, winner of awards such as the British Photography Award , the Feature Shoot Emerging Artist Award , and the Monochrome Award . Her work has been recognized by Arts Council England , and projects such as My Name is Maya (2021) have been highlighted in competitions such as the Jerwood Photoworks Award . In recent years, Ouimet has expanded her creative field to film, directing pieces such as Meet Me Where I Am (2020) and Stimming (2020). Her foray into documentary is now consolidated with this project.
Motion photography
The collaboration between Ibizacinefest and the SBPC continues with this documentary. Within the same "Film and Photography" section , the festival will screen a 45-minute audiovisual montage featuring the finalist works from the Barcelona competition.
Furthermore, the three award-winning works at the SBPC will have a special place: they will be screened at the beginning of the sessions on the festival's final weekend, integrating the power of the still image with the narrative power of cinema.
With this new partnership, Ibizacinefest reinforces its commitment to experimentation and dialogue between different art forms, offering the public an experience where cinema and photography meet, interact, and enhance each other .
